We will explore best practices for setting up my sites and team sites, and show how companies can turn there intranet into a Facebook like experience.  Wikis, Blogs, People Search and Content Rating will also be covering in this very entertaining session.

Business Intelligence in SharePoint can be hard to configure because it’s made up of so many parts—Excel Services,  PowerPivot, Reporting Services, Business Connectivity and  Performance Point. This session will go through a real world configuration example—connecting with Kerberos authentication to a backend SQL Server Analysis cube and demo the configuration steps required on a live server (note that this session requires internet connectivity.)

The best thing about SharePoint is that you can put any content into it. The worst thing about SharePoint is that you can put any content into it.  While business users (Marketing, HR, Operations, etc.) want to use SharePoint for intranets, external sites, My Sites, Team Sites, blogs, wikis, etc., the IT group has concerns about compliance: accessibility, privacy, site quality, and brand integrity.  This impasse delays the business benefits of using SharePoint.

In this session, I’ll demonstrate how to use jQuery to enhance your site pages and forms, specifically with the jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services (aka SPServices), which is an open source solution available on Codeplex.  We’ll cover how to add the library to your SharePoint site and some of the most popular functions, such as SPCascadeDropdowns and SPDisplayRelatedInfo.

Session Description: Many companies rely upon Return on Investment (ROI) when making technology strategy decisions, but few take the time to actually determine how much that strategy will cost over time. That's unfortunate, because without estimating the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), ROI is meaningless. There's no way of knowing how large an investment is actually being made.
That's particularly true when companies decide whether to use an IT hosting provider or take the do-it-yourself route; Buy v. Build.  Because managed hosting is presenting a complete solution, all costs are on the table from the start. By contrast, in-house hosting often involves hidden costs that aren't surfaced until the do-it-yourself project is well underway.
Hidden cost when trying to ‘build’ an infrastructure will be buried in three phases; Capital Expenditures (CAPEX), Hardware Deprecation and overall infrastructure maintenance. 
With the introduction of Public Cloud and Private Cloud infrastructures, it truly allows for a more SaaS based SharePoint deployment with better utilization of resources and Global deployments.

The introduction of SharePoint also served as a vehicle for the introduction of Microsoft’s first foray into “Managed Metadata”.   Also known as the Term Store, it is an incredibly powerful new capability that should be leveraged as organizations progress forward with their SP 2010 implementations.  It is also a bit confusing in terms of how it can be used, configured and deliver business value without a clear and concise explanation.  The purpose of this session is to introduce the concept of the Term Store and to provide real-world examples of how it is used and issues to be considered when implementing it.

SharePoint 2010 has brought some worthwhile advances in core technologies.  Not the least of which are the upgrades and integration with InfoPath and SharePoint Designer.  Both of these applications have made building and deploying custom workflows faster, much more powerful, and with significantly increased flexibility.  This session will walk through the process how putting these pieces together to present options for solving real-world solutions in your organization.

Introduction to the new concept of Managed Metadata in SharePoint 2010 including techniques for incorporated Managed Metadata into your SharePoint 2010 implementation

In this session we will see how to customize the SharePoint 2010 server ribbon, add new ribbon buttons, groups and contextual tabs. We will try to understand how does the ribbon gets generated and cover its capabilities as well as limitations. We will try to get a better insight that will help us design our solutions to take advantage of the ribbon from within our web parts, features and other customized solutions. This is a developers session that requires basic SharePoint development skills.

SharePoint Workspace 2010 along with Groove provides an application platform that integrates with SharePoint servers and extends it with an "offline/mobile client". This session will explore the integration architectures of SPW 2010 and SharePoint servers and how applications are built on the platform including the use of SPW 2010 Groove API.

Join us as we look at two methods to build dashboards in SharePoint that don’t require custom development or touching a server. The two processes will address methods to build dashboards for end-users with either contributor or designer rights.

This session covers the basic concepts of branding your 2010 site for the non-designer. We’ll go over master pages, themes, the new theming engine, CSS, and touch upon the ribbon, notification and dialog platform.
